The “Barbenheimer” phenomenon gave a big boost to the movie business during the summer — months before the splashy “awards show films” normally begin to open.

In July, audiences were drawn to movie theaters for the one-two punch of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” detailing the atomic bomb’s origin story and aftermath.

With many of the nomination-bait movies recently having opened in theaters and coming to home streaming, it will be an interesting awards season to watch.

With the ceremonies back on track after two major show-business union strikes in the fall, the awards-season hype is gearing up this week.

A revamped Golden Globes Awards show — under new ownership after the scandal-plagued Hollywood Foreign Press Association was dissolved earlier this year — kicks it all off on Sunday.
